Search by ID

Hello, I'm filling in the book My Family with my son on Sunday and found a problem, it might be a problem, but maybe not.

We were trying to add family in my son's tree. For the dead, this was possible searching by ID number, already living people, both those that are members of the Church as those who are not, it was not possible to find the person for registration.

Which is to say, I took the ID a living person who was in my tree and my son tree, the option to add an individual put the ID of that family, but the system did not find. For people dead, the system found. But for the living not. I called the support and said that the system simply does not ... but then I was in doubt ... what the rationale for that? because if we need to enter data of the same person in two or three trees, it would not duplicate data unnecessarily?

It is certainly possible to add a living individual to your tree by ID. But this is only possible if it is a living person that the signed-in person can already see.

It sound like you are taking the ID for a living person that YOU can see, and then trying to use that ID when your SON is signed in to add that person. That will not work. The important concept here is that living persons are stored in what is called a Private Space. Those persons are unique to the signed-in person. For example, if I add a living person record for my uncle, I can see that record with his ID, and I can use that ID to add him as a child to my grandparents. But if my cousin also adds him as a living person, my cousin's version of that record will have a different ID. I can't use my cousin's ID to see his copy of my uncle, and my cousin can't use my ID for my uncle to see my copy of my uncle. Once my uncle passes away, we can both merge our personal records for our uncle into the real record for him (which would then be publicly visible, since records for deceased persons are visible) and any photos or stories or other information from our versions of his record would be preserved and accessible by others.

For more details, read the FamilySearch Help Center article Understanding Private Spaces.

Ok, I understood that for confidential matters, living people can not be reused in other trees, but only when they died.

Thanks for the explanation and example.
