MHT Project - Moving Meetinghouse Technology Content to LDS.

#1

Post by hutchinsbb »

Change is coming! The Meetinghouse Technology Team has initiated a project to move our content from LDSTech wiki to LDS.org. The following are reasons for this change:
  • Make it easy to provide content in ten languages (99% coverage): English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.
  • Provide clear delineation from authoritative content and community-contributed content.
  • Secure sensitive content with role-based authentication
  • Reduce the number of locations where content is published.
  • Integrate content with LDS.org personalization effort (displaying information related to your Church calling on the home page).
  • Change page layouts (design) without having to write code.
What does this mean? Our training materials, product overviews, and policy and guidelines will move to LDS.org in the next several months. We will continue to use the LDSTech forums as a place for technology specialists to connect, ask questions, and receive additional help. The LDSTech WIKI will also continue to have an index page of meetinghouse technology links pointing to LDS.org.

Less than two thirds of our 3000 plus technology specialists speak English. If you have been or are involved in community translation efforts, we thank you for your efforts. This service will no longer be required for meetinghouse technology content. LDS.org is connected directly to the Church’s translation process and makes it easy to keep content translated in ten languages.

In preparation for the move to LDS.org, we are building out a new site map and cleaning up content on mhtech.lds.org. Your feedback is welcomed—especially regarding how we structure the new site map.
As we audit each content page, we will mark the page with “MHT MOVE” or “MHT STAY,” making it easy to determine which pages are moving to LDS.org. All pages with “MHT MOVE” will also be listed in the new meetinghouse technology site map. Please use the discussion feature on individual wiki articles for page-specific feedback or the Meetinghouse Technology Content Moving to LDS.org forum on LDSTech. Updates will be posted to this forum as the project progresses.

This sounds like a great project. You just have to promise to keep the info up to date there, since it won't be community editable. :) There is a lot of info on the wiki now that is no longer relevant or out of date.

New LDS.org Record-Keeping and Technology Support site almost completed

Post by hutchinsbb »

The effort to move meetinghouse technology and clerk-related content form the LDSTech WIKI to a new site on LDS.org is nearing an end. We are currently in a silent launch on the new site, which means it is live, and we are gradually adding more and more content to it. During the next few weeks, we will begin deleting content from the WIKI pages. Each page will then contain a link to where the content is now located.

Thanks in advance for your patience and support as we complete this transition over the next few weeks.

Thanks for that. I've been seeing a number of pages with "content moved" but it leaves me to search for where to find the new one.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Looks to me like https://clerksupport.lds.org which redirects to http://www.lds.org/callings/melchizedek ... t?lang=eng

This site has been referenced in the upcoming MLS 3.5 upgrade.

One comment about the new site I'd make is that it seems odd to me to separate the Finance and Membership areas by putting the Technology pieces in the middle of it. I realize it is going alphabetically, but there is so much more data in the technology area that when looking, particularly at the index, the membership stuff is way at the bottom and might be overlooked.

In the Index, that's true. For the menu, it's easy enough to find the Membership item, since there's only 5 topics (at least for now). It does appear that the Membership area has by far the least content at this point. I assume that will change as we get closer to the official release of this site.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Meetinghouse Technology Content to be deleted by end of October

#9

Post by hutchinsbb »

The new http://clerksupport.lds.org site is now available, but please remember that not all content has been uploaded to the site yet. The migration of content will be completed in the next 3-4 weeks. Once all content has been moved, we will begin deleting meetinghouse technology content off of the LDSTech WIKI.

The translation of English content on the new LDS.org site has a 2-3 week lag time.

I see in the wiki pages that the content for webcasting has been moved to the new site, but I'm unable to find the content there. I see PVC, but I think webcasting and PVC isn't quite the same thing.
