Help!!! Clerk installed 10/17 backup

#1

Post by emarks-p40 »

We didn't have the needed reports, and after CUBS was downloaded and successfully activated, the clerk installed a backup from 10/17 on the live MLS system (without doing a backup first) and now we are locked out of finances again.

I called SLC and they have tried twice not to resend the CUBS info, but we are still locked out. Any ideas on how to fix this. SLC says that it shows we successfully downloaded the material?!?

Work with the stake technology specialist and try to restore an automatic backup, as described in the wiki under Automatic backup. I would first copy the entire MLS folder (under C:\Program Files\LDS Church) to a safe place just in case anything goes wrong.

Is the unit in question on dial-up versus high-speed internet? I can't answer the question of what installing an old back up does to CUB's but I do know that there can be problems with the download of CUBs, especially if it is on a dial-up modem.

How do I know you might ask? One of the units in our stake has an old computer that is in the same condition it came out of the box in 2003. Over the last several months they have had problems downloading MLS upgrades which subsequently messes up their send/receive capability. The last two upgrades, most noticibly 3.2.3, had to be downloaded to a thumb drive from the MLS site and then physically uploaded on to their computer.

On the 24th, this unit did exactly as they were directed and logged on and did a send/receive. The "computer" said it had a successful connection and download when in fact it didn't. The unit was still locked out of finances and the pop up screen that we all saw during the week of the 17th was still showing. They did a total of five send/receives and were still locked out. I called Salt Lake this last week and discussed the issue with them and found that they showed the unit as having a successful connection and download while the unit's computer did not. I drove up to the unit yesterday (28th) and sat down at the computer and did a total of 4 more send/receives. On the 4th try the CUBs transition finally came through.

Long story shortened - if the unit is on a dial up modem and are still locked out of finances, have them try multiple send/receives to see if that will get the total CUB's downloaded onto their system. I can't tell you how many tries it will take, but at least in our case it finally succeeded in getting the unit back into their finance screens.

As for the overwrite of the data from an older backup, I can't help you there so I would follow Alan's advice or talk again with the MLS LUS.

Good luck

I had something mysterious happen that ended up with CHQ telling me that a Restore was performed. CHQ queued up my changes and everything worked great. I know it doesn't help, but at least it tells you that it's supposed to work.

After the CUBS download, a popup appeared that said MLS would log you off and you would have to log in again. Units who clicked on that Ok button and logged off lost CUBS. This is probably your problem.

When the S/R is complete Ok popup appears, or the popup that you will have to log off and back in again, WAIT. Do not click on either one.

Watch the status line at the bottom left of the MLS window. MLS continues to download files, including CUBS files. The status line will tell you when ALL of the files are downloaded and the S/R is truly complete.

Normally, it does not hurt to click on the S/R is Ok button. But when you click on the logoff and log back on Ok button, and you actually get logged off, you break the connection immediately.

So, until CUBS is fully downloaded, take a little extra time to watch the status line at the bottom left and make sure you have the whole enchilada.

After that, you can go back to your more efficient ways without much trouble.

Problem solved

The second attempt worked. SLC coded it to download again, and this time it went through. Now we need to go through and deal with everything else (ward missionary funds that are missing, scout funds that didn't carry over, etc)

Thank you for your help.

You can also view the details of the download via Help | Show Send/Receive Status (or press F9), before you start the Send/Receive. Then you can make sure that all the files have been completely transferred.

(Nerdy me) I love this feature. I'm actually disappointed that after you process a donation batch the big "Transmit" button on the last step prevents you from switching to the status screen. :p
