Building Internet through LTE Modem

#1

Post by allencp »

I'm curious to know if anyone out there has used an LTE modem/router to provide internet to a building. We currently have a building that is remote enough that we cannot get an adequate internet connection to support the programs at the building. Yet, the building has good LTE coverage and would have better throughput than our current wireline provider.

Just curious to know if anyone has gone this route and what is currently used.

Yes, but we want to get off of it as soon as possible. The useful bandwidth on Sundays is poor. I think our building with two overlapping wards on a 3Mbit DSL is doing better.

Our stake center is getting 6 Mbps over the air from a cell provider to run the Internet. It has been fairly reliable for us, and even when members overpower the cell tower with their phones and have to wait to make calls, it seems our Internet service receives some sort of priority and keeps working well.

Just curious, what type of equipment are you using for this? Our FM just installed a Cradlepoint router with a Verizon USB MIFI -- it does okay but once you have more than 10 users in the building everything gets saturated. Unfortunately they gave us a base model which may be part of our problem.

Is anyone doing this with the new Meraki Firewalls that have been installed?

I have a unit using a LTE modem, but so far the Merakis haven't appeared in my stake.
