LDS Account Membership Record Numbers
LDS Accounts are universal accounts created for users to use across multiple sites. Once an LDS Account is created, and a membership record number is attached, individuals won't need to register for new accounts, even if they're trying to log in/set up profiles for different sites. LDS Account login credentials are used for many sites and programs (e.g. familysearch.org, ldsjobs.org (employment resources), LDS Tools, lds.org, Leader and Clerk Resources, etc.). Often, individuals will try to create, or register for, a new account for a different site. When they put in their MRN a message prompts that something is incorrect (MRN or date-of-birth) or there is already an account with that MRN. Usually, that user already has account with their MRN attached. Because MRNs can only be associated with one LDS Account, individuals will need to recover their previous account using the 'forgot username' and 'forgot password' links at ldsaccount.lds.org. If there is a problem recovering the account, individuals will need to contact their ward clerk and have him connect them to the Global Service Center. We, Account Management, can then assist in recovering the previous account, as well as identifying any other account problems.
Please be cautious when trying to register for a new site or program. If you already have an LDS Account that you use for other church-related (lds.org or LDS Tools), genealogical-purposed (familysearch), or employment-resourced (ldsjobs.org) functions, then you already have an LDS Account, and if your membership record number is already attached to that account (you can see temple information on familysearch or access your ward directory at lds.org or at LDS Tools), then you can't add your membership record number to another account even if you try to register for a new one. Just remember: 1 LDS Account is good for hundreds of sites and programs. Also note: MRNs MUST be associated with the LDS Account for individuals to access certain resources (like Leader and Clerk Resources or ward/stake directories and calendars, etc.). For specific sites, individuals will also need to be listed in MLS, LCR, or CDOL under specific callings, and their LDS Account must reflect that informaion, before they can have access, even if their MRN is already on the account (e.g. mission presidents to access IMOS or visiting teaching coordinators to access LCR).
Please check ldsaccount.lds.org to verify LDS Account information is correct and updated. You may also need to contact your ward clerk for assistance in verifying your membership record number or changing your name, as seen on your church records.

Also note that LDS Accounts are for individuals. A couple cannot share an LDS Account and expect it to work properly, especially with regard to their calling.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

I got a new phone and the LDS tools app is asking me to update my MRN. When I try to do that it tells me my number is invalid or already associated with someone else. I know the number is correct because I got it off of my tithing settlement statement and it matches my temple recommend. Please help!

That probably means you've already created another account with your MRN. That can happen if you create an account for familysearch.org or a couple other websites and you didn't realize they are all really LDS Accounts.LauraMarieBlevins wrote:I got a new phone and the LDS tools app is asking me to update my MRN. Use the 'Forgot your username?' link on the login page and use the MRN option to find the username for the account which is connected to your MRN.

I am trying to set up an account for my grandson. It tells me his MRN is invalid I have checked it is right. Can you help me.

When trying to add the MRN to an existing account, I get the error:
Either the MRN and/or Birth Date is not valid or the account already exists.
I cannot see any donation history, so I am assuming that the missing MRN is causing a problem. What can I do to fix this?

First, double check the MRN and birth date to make sure they are correct. Note that if you're getting your MRN from your temple recommend, it's possible that it was not written down correctly.washingtonwayne wrote:When trying to add the MRN to an existing account, I get the error:

The other distinct possibility is that you have another LDS Account that has your MRN associated with it. To check out that possibility, go to the LDS.org sign-in page, and then choose the "Forgot your username" option.
