Lady in ward wants to pay for half of grandsons mission (he lives in idaho)

#1

Post by jimme543 »

Hello All,

So this lady in my ward came to me asking how she can pay directly to her grandsons account for his mission.
I do not know of any way to do this other than to donate to the general mission fund.

Does anyone know details on if this can be done? And if so, how?

Regards,

James C.

She should not use the general missionary fund. She should use the ward missionary fund and can contribute online using Donations.

She will need the unit number of the missionary and will be able to enter it, then select her grandson from the drop down list on the donation slip. She can do it at the same time she pays her tithing and other offerings.

If she's not into computers, she can fill out a tithing slip and mail the check to the home address of the grandson's bishop.

Either way, your ward is not part of the process.

The Online Donations FAQ details the process: https://www.lds.org/help/support/financ ... -Questions
Can I make a donation to the missionary fund of another ward?

Yes, you can make a donation to another ward or branch’s ward missionary fund, but you will need to know the unit number of that ward or branch. Go to Make a Donation, click Select a missionary, and then click Missionary in Other Ward/Branch. (Note: Currently you can only contribute to the missionary funds of wards and branches in the country where you make the donation.)

Enter the ward or branch number, and click Continue. For help in getting a ward or branch number, click How do I get a ward or branch number?

From the drop-down list, select the name of the missionary, and enter the amount you want to donate.

Since this is a thread about funding, I'm assuming you want to help fund his mission.

Sending it to him is not how this works. It has to go to the ward that's responsible for his mission.

If you're looking for his mission address to write a letter or send a package, you can search for the mission name on the "classic" Church maps website:
https://classic.churchofjesuschrist.org/maps/
After searching, the mission will show as an option on the left, with its address.

If excess funds should remain in a missionary's account after he returns home and he has a brother serving a mission, can those funds be transferred to his brother's account?

The bishop controls the use of the ward missionary fund under Church guidelines. I believe it would be entirely appropriate for him to approve this kind of a transfer.

Yes, you can transfer excess funds anywhere in the Missionary Funds category you want.
