Procedure/Order When Sustaining Someone to Calling That Requires Priesthood Advancement

#1

Post by russjones »

We had this question come up in a meeting and I haven't been able to find anything in the Handbook on this subject. The scenario is a brother who is currently an Elder is being called to the High Council. When he is sustained should he first be sustained to be ordained a High Priest and then be called to the position of High Councilor? Or does the order in which that happens matter?

For sustaining, I do not believe it really matters. Often times both will be included at the same time, i.e., it is proposed that Brother Jones be ordained a high priest and that we sustain him as a high councilor. They both need to happen.

But he does need to be ordained a high priest before he is set apart as a high councilor.
