Member records sent using address of chapel building

#1

Post by klricks »

This has happened to me several times over the years. Records received with the chapel address of new ward as the only contact information.
Please don't do that..... It's a waste of everyone's time..... Just go ahead and send to address unknown.

This has happened to me as well. It is possible that the member told them what ward/branch they were moving to and they did not bother to get the household address. It is also possible that the address is the one they gave to the ward and the clerk did not know it was not a good home address (typing the address when moving a record does not raise any flag if the address is not a residence). We received a membership record a few years ago for someone and the address listed was the local Airport parking lot...

On the bright side, it makes it easier for your bishop/branch president to approve sending them to address unknown as it is impossible for your unit to complete most of the steps on the list.

I'm chuckling as I read this--sorry.
Our ward boundary includes the stake center, the rescue mission, the county jail, and the downtown post office. We have, multiple times, received membership records--with no e-mail address or phone number--with each of those addresses. We recently received a record, again with no phone or e-mail, with a PO Box in a neighboring city (at least two stakes away) for an address. We have also been assured by previous units that the addresses are certain because they found them on the internet.

I would be thinking long and hard about ways to repay them for their diligence. Perhaps by writing a letter stating the facts to the stake
clerk. My evil twin suggests reciprocating in kind with my own "Address Unknown" candidates.

My own interpretation of the guidelines is that we're to use the local "boots on the ground" resources - the kinds of things CHQ would have difficulty tapping into. And leave the internet resources to CHQ.

When the Membership Department insisted that our ward keep a record because the "location" of a member was within the boundaries of our ward, I pointed out that the 3 x 5 x 12-inch Post Office box was actually located in the other ward. I do not know what the other ward did with the record, but I do not believe they had it very long.
