Stake reorganized right before quarterly report is due

#1

Post by jtyewhit »

Our stake reorganized its boundaries yesterday. One ward was dissolved, and several new ones were created by adjusting the boundaries of other wards in the stake. Only three of the original wards remain untouched.

The quarterly report is due in a couple weeks. Since the allocation the Stake receives is based on the quarterly report, what do we do in this circumstance?

The baseline numbers come from a snapshot taken at the end of the quarter. The real question is the attendance numbers.

Communicate.

Make sure each of the new units reports attendance for everyone now in the unit, even though they may have attended another unit earlier in the month.

Move the membership records to the new units this week so the snapshot at the end of the quarter will be accurate.

Your 4th quarter allowance will be based on your 2nd quarter report. The stake will need to adjust those amounts for those wards whose boundaries have been adjusted. For example, the three wards that did not change will probably stay the same. The amount allocated to the discontinued unit will probably be divided between new units based on where those members wound up. The stake will need to sit down and decide how to divide the stake allowance equitably among the new units.

If you get everything fairly up-to-date this week, your 3rd quarter report will be quite accurate and will work well for your 1st quarter allowance next year. If not, you will have big allowance adjustments to do again at the end of the next quarter.

This would be a very good time for the stake to carefully review each of the 3rd quarter reports as they are submitted by the new units.
