Flagged Record/First Presidency Application

#1

Post by daniel.scheer31@gmail.com »

We have a membership record that has been flagged and wont allow the person to hold a certain calling. I was also told that we I can submit an application to the First Presidency to explain the situation and potentially have the flag removed from the record. Any insight that can be provided regarding the validity of this statement and the necessary steps to follow if it is accurate would be appreciated.

I'd suggest reading Handbook 1: 6.13.4. I think that's the situation you are referring to. If I remember correctly, only the Bishop and Ward Clerk can see this "flag" at the ward level. They would have to review it before continuing.

That's correct. I'm doing some research for them in preparation for the next step. I have reviewed Section 6.13.4 and I don't see any information regarding the submission of a request to have the "flag" removed. Any direction you can provide would be great. Is it as simple as having the bishop submit a request to the First Presidency, then having the Stake President write his comments and submit it, or are there other steps to be taken?

I'd imagine the process of removing it is much like the process of adding it. Someone with access to LCR might have a better idea. I suspect it's something only the bishop can see, so, he may have to do his own final research.

Pretty much. The bishop makes the recommendation to the stake president. If he agrees, he sends a letter to the First Presidency.

I would keep in mind that annotations are added to records for very serious reasons, and their removal is of not small matter. That said, if the bishop and stake president feel that there is justification, the provision is there in the last paragraph of that section to make their recommendation to the first presidency.
