Mismatch between name on recommend and name in system for recently married sister

Hi there,

A ward member just got married (in the temple) recently. Consequently, her temple recommend has her maiden name on it but in the system her name has been switched to her married name. When she went to the temple today, they saw a mismatch in name between the physical recommend and what the system showed and made her wait for 20 minutes while they verified that she was actually who she said she was.

Is this standard practice? I've never heard of this happening before; my own wife had no problems after she got married (the person at the recommend desk even congratulated her on getting married recently when he saw the name mismatch). Is there a way short of a fresh set of temple recommend interviews to get the name on the recommend to match the name in the system? Should it even need to come to that?

It would be interesting to check and see if her maiden name on her record is correct - or if her pre-married name wasn't her maiden name. (Second marriage?)

I can't imagine it taking 20 minutes to figure it out unless the recommend didn't match either her legal or maiden name.

So I checked with the member and indeed she was married previously, and the name on her recommend was her previous married name, matching neither the new married or the maiden name.

I don't think so. It sounds as if the living recommend was not completed properly, and the temple was not able to annotate her new married name on the recommend because of it.

It would be interesting to know what the temple asked her to do, if anything, after they sorted out her identity. But if she did not receive any instructions from the temple presidency or the recorder, I believe the best solution would be for her to obtain a new recommend.
