Ward member reported a lost temple recomend
I am newly called as the ward clerk. Recently a ward member came to me and reported that he had lost his temple recommend. The Bishop had told him to let me know. I asked the Bishop how I should handle this, and he told me that I need to record it as lost. I have been looking, but I can't find how to do this.

Unless something has changed in recent months, report the loss to the Stake Clerk. Depending on how long ago the Recommend was actually issued it might be necessary to go through the whole Recommend process again.

The Bishop or Ward Clerk can record the recommend as lost by going to the members information page in LCR and editing the temple recommend status.

Re: Ward member reported a lost temple recomend
I am a stake clerk as well. A member in my stake lost their recommend and let me know. I marked it as lost or stolen in LCR. What does the member do now? Do they have to go through the whole process or can the Bishop/SP renew it somehow and what is my role in all of this?? (New stake clerk btw!!!)

Re: Ward member reported a lost temple recomend
The system should give you a warning if you try to activate a new recommend with an issue date more than 90 days in the past, but you should be able to ignore that warning. I think it is up to the bishop and the stake president whether they feel a full interview is necessary. Most stake presidencies do the activation themselves, so the stake clerk does not need to get involved.

Don't forget counselors, who normally do all the renewals.

Re: Ward member reported a lost temple recomend
I am a stake clerk and recently tagged a member's recommend as being "lost or stolen". It was just issued in March. He found his recommend the next day. I went back into the system to change it back to active but I don't seem to be able to do that. Is that something a Stake Presidency member can do or is he stuck having to get a new one? Thanks.

I do not believe you can change it, but in this situation it may be worth a call to the Global Services Center to see if they have the option and/or are willing to do it. If not, he will be among the first to get to do virtual interviews.rjamesh77 wrote:He found his recommend the next day.

Re: Ward member reported a lost temple recomend
Thanks. We've been doing Zoom interviews for a few weeks now. Bishop fills out recommend, takes a pic and send it to SP counselor. Bishop holds recommend. Both do their interviews via Zoom. Counselor sends pic to me and tells me when interview is done. I enter info in system to activate recommend. I also enter on spreadsheet to help stay on top of things when members can eventually pick up the recommend and sign it.
