Can't connect to Sophos update server

#1

Post by craiggsmith »

One of our buildings has not been able to connect to the Sophos update server for a week. Anyone else having trouble? Other internet access seems fine. It's hardwired to an ASA 5505 firewall.

I've got a problem also where in an FHC, the Sophos update does connect, but doesn't take the files. I have to update that one every so often via LANDesk by refreshing the installation of Sophos.

Today I got a spam with a suspicious payload, a picture as a zip file, a red flag so I sent it to them. Three hours later they confirmed it was bad and they now have a definition written for the payload I sent them. The definition for that malware will deploy on the next Sophos update you take.

Great, thanks. Did you sent the malware directly to Sophos or to the Church help desk?

I found out the place at Sophos itself to send the malware file to. That's probably the better place as the Church helpdesk would probably only be involved if a computer was infected, but since it was in my webmail inbox, I was not affected, but I sent the whole thing to Sophos directly. All I had to do was hit forward and send it to their email address set up for that purpose.

Sophos not updating

#5

Post by phidon »

Sometime in the past month the Sophos antivirus was installed on our Ward computer.

I don't know who might be able to help us with this. The program is pretty locked down it would appear so there isn't much that we can do with out more information or some assistance.

I am wide open to suggestions right now.

You may want to re-download it from mls.lds.org and re-install it.

Contact the Stake Technology Specialist. If he doesn't know it, he can contact Local Unit Support.

Just as a side note, the install file was updated Feb 19. If the download for your install was prior to that, it's defective.

Do I need to disable the Windows 7 Firewalls in order for Sophos to work right?
