Substituting biological father with adoptive

#1

Post by mattsteen »

Hi everyone. I was just set apart as ward clerk. A situation has arisen in which an adoptive father is asking to be made the "father of record" for his adoptive children. When you click on his membership record, it still lists the biological father. The biological father is completely out of the picture. He's renounced his parental rights, the adoptive father has, obviously, adopted the kids and is sealed to their mother. I want to make sure it's ok to make that change. The handbook is silent on the issue. Thoughts? Ok to make the change? Stake president wasn't sure, either.

Not quite. See Handbook 1: 13.6.12, which you or the bishop may also wish to share with your stake president.

Ha. How'd I miss that? It's literally right on point. Thanks.
