Under 8 Years Old and Membership Numbers

Hello,

We have a part member family returning to activity with three children from a previous marriage. All three children show up under the "Family" tab of the member's profile, but only one has their own member profile page, membership number and shows up under the "Household" tab. All three children are under 8 and none were born in the covenant or received a blessing to my knowledge and were added by another clerk in their previous ward. Since they are not showing up under the "Household" tab they are not showing on our class rolls either.

When I try to edit under the "Family" tab I cannot say they are members since they do not have a record number and the other option is to create a record, when I try to create a record I am told not to do so because it is a duplicate. How can I get these children onto our rolls/get a record number?

I can create a duplicate and merge them but that seems like a last resort. Bonus info: they are working on being adopted and the nonmember spouse has a baptismal date, I'd like them to all be showing up correctly once the baptism is recorded.

Thanks again!

Aaron

In addition to the issues you're seeing, I'd review Handbook 1: 13.6.2, especially item #4. Certain permissions have to be obtained before the record is created. That might be why it wasn't done in the first place. But perhaps it's possible now.

Assuming you have permission, I'd contact support. Apparently the system doesn't like you changing information recorded on the parent into an actual membership record.

Before anything else, try to request the requests for the other children. I don't think you'll find any but you need to make sure they didn't get created and then not moved into your ward.

Assuming you don't find them by requesting them, then I think you need to delete the child records in the Family tab and then use the Create Record to create a new record for them. The entry on the family record doesn't represent a real membership record so deleting it shouldn't cause any harm as long as you add the child back by creating the full record.

I'm pretty sure that won't work since the family entry isn't a real record so I don't think it will show up for merge. You'd just end up deleting the child record after creating the record rather than before.
