need to add marriage cant find info. inactive

WE have an inactive member on our ward list that shows as single. We have had no luck communicating with him.
He got married sometime in the 2000's. He was inactive at the time and has not updated his records. We know he is married. How do we find a date for that marriage. We do not know the time or the place. All we have been able to come up with is her name.
How do we get this marriage recorded without a date or place?
OR, how do we find a marriage?
We have exhausted all our means trying to find this, including all our limited understanding of public records. But short of searching all records in all counties in all states, how do we get this done?

You don't. If the member refuses to divulge the marriage date, you will have to resort to searching public records or leaving him showing as single on his membership record.

IIRC, you only need a year, not a full date to record the marriage - if that helps.

I have had a bit of luck with the situation that you described by using the public records' feature in ancestry.com.
