New Clerk PC - Finance Functionality Temporarily Unavailable

#1

Post by steavis »

Our STS replaced all the PCs in our stake last week per our normal refresh cycle. All the other units' MLS are restored and working, but our ward is getting an error message when trying any Finance functions (see attached image).

We have done the Send/Receive dozens of times, both on the Ward Clerk account and the STS Admin account to no avail. This has been going on for a few days and I know the STS has reached out to HQ but so far hasn't received any response. Is there any other restore process we can try?

If you still have the old machine, you can copy over the MLS data directory. But if you do that, be sure to do a unit refresh as any changes made on the new system will be lost and you'll need to get it back in sync with SLC.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Yes. Call the Global Service Center and tell them you need to have the financial file set so that it will load to your computer the next time you start MLS and do a Send/Receive. I am not sure how your STS "reached out to HQ", but the best way is to speak directly with Support and have then load the file for you.

I upgraded 5 ward computers this week. I thought we were all set as send / receive worked after resetting the security token. Then on Sunday, all of the units were getting the same message posted here when trying to access financial functions. Is this a gap in the documented upgrade procedures for the technology specialists, or is this a process gap in the GSC? When we call in for a security token reset, should they be taking care of this other issue? Should we be asking for the financial file to be set for re-sync, or should that be happening implicitly when we ask for a security token reset? I have a couple more upgrades this week, and would like to get it right this time around!

It does not happen just because you ask for a security token reset. However, it should happen automatically because the new computer needs it. The new computer should have requested the file on a Send/Receive, and it should have come down on a Send/Receive a short time later.

I would specifically ask for it by mentioning that the reset is for a new computer, and asking at the same time that the financial file be set to download.

I just got this resolved. The solution was to delete all local MLS data, restore from a backup three weeks prior, then ask church support to queue up the missing weeks to restore during a send and receive. After doing all of this, the problem was gone.

I did the same minus deleting the local MLS data, and after about 4 send / receive cycles the older records were back. I guess the lesson learned is that a) the upgrade process needs some shoring up, b) you want to take time off work and upgrade during a weekday else you'll have no MLS support and c) you'll want to verify older donations are visible in the system after the upgrade, and d) you'll want to block some time the day after as it's likely not going to be all good in one go.
