The standard callings list is somewhat linked to MLS releases, but not completely. The list comes from CDOL and can be updated between MLS releases.

The only recent things that come to mind are:
  • High Council Adviser was removed
  • District High Councilor renamed to District Councilor

I am note sure what you are saying?

But I assume that in the end if we follow the latest MLS update (Standard Calling list) that we will be correct in our posting of callings on MLS and thus keep to a minimum, or no custom callings depending on the direction our bishopric gives us. I assume that this will also keep the callings listed on lds.org & CDOL close to being perfect, if one is diligent in doing all he can to keeping the MLS callings current. What do you think?

THANK YOU GREATLY FOR THE CURRENT MLS STANDARD CALLING LIST UPDATE AND THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE DATE OF THE UPDATE ON THE DOCUMENT. :o

The position type list is not part of the MLS update. It is maintained in CDOL and can be updated without an MLS update.

There have been a couple of recent situations where the list was updated in conjunction with an MLS release (Cub Scout changes, for example). There have also been situations where a change was made without an associated MLS release (removal of High Council Adviser).

The advice to use standard position types whenever possible instead of creating custom positions is sound.

The main thing to remember is that the electronic "keys" to the calling are not/can not be conferred via a custom position. So if the calling is "Hymn book straighter", I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if the calling is in a leadership position where the user might expect some on-line rights to go with it, then I'd go for standard positions regardless of if the exact title is correct or not.

But there will be cases where there are no standard positions that fit. It probably means the leaders are going beyond the Handbook. That may not be a bad thing, but it could create a problem for the person called to that position.

See my recent complaint about there being no generic "Stake Activities Director" standard position in MLS:https://tech.lds.org/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 39#p123821

Handbook 2 says we can have them, but MLS does not have such a standard position.

The position type list isn't managed by the developers. I'll add more to that thread.

MLS has a position "Stake Activities Committee Chairman" – is this similar to what you're looking for?

EDIT: Sorry, I should've read your linked post first. You already know about the chairman. :)

"Assistant Technology Specialist" has just been added as a standard calling on the stake level, under "Technology."
