FHC Dell Optiplex AIO 9030 HDMI input--how to use

#1

Post by bookwalk »

We have 2 new Dell Optiplex 9030's and there are lot of inputs, etc. We have a very small room, so if we want to demonstrate Device apps from smartphones or tablets, it would be nice to display their image on these 9030 All in One displays. I see there is a HDMI INPUT in the back and I have tried connecting an adapter HDMI cable from my Samsung Android Smartphone but see nowhere to access that image. Is this a BIOS option or where in Windows 7 can I access the HDMI input display that should be coming in from the smartphone?

I tried calling FS Support but they only had information on how to connect my device to a Smart TV. Is this HDMI Input for these 9030's functional and just how can we access that? It is difficult to get the Ward's flat screen Smart TV into our FHC--using one of the All in One monitors would be much easier.

I have gone to Dell's website but see no description of how that HDMI input is designed to work. Any ideas or referrals would be welcome. Our Stake COmputer Specialist is also trying to figure this out, but lives 50 miles away from our FHC, so whatever we can figure out on our own would be helpful.

Thanks, Pat

There's a Input select button just above the power button. Try that.

Are you sure it is an input? Could be an output for a second display.

danpass--Yes, it definitely says "input"-there is also a HDMI "output" but

thanks, russellhltn, I will try that input selection button above the power button--I did find in the manual that it comes with the BIOS Optical Display disabled, so if I have to "enable" that display toggle, how do I access the BIOS--the same F8 or F12 and does FSearch have that password protected?

Yeah, I'd try there. I haven't heard of any BIOS passwords being set on the machines. If it is, it's likely the same one as the admin password that was shipped with the machine.

I found the toggle to choose input as PC or HDMI, but my attached Android Smartphone connected via an HDMi adapter would not show up on the screen. I checked the BIOS and it does show the Optical Display enabled. Will try again with IPAD, but wonder if there is some limitation on what will go through--is that a setting in the BIOS, Windows (thus view it through the Windows OS) or the device?

Has your smartphone/adapter combination worked with other HDMI devices?

I just assumed since my Samsung Android tablet worked, that this would, too, but no--I tried inputting the HDMI to a tv/monitor we have and nothing, so looks like I can't input my Android Smart Phone to anything--unless there is an app that would let me do so--I checked everywhere on the phone but only see Mirror Link and Screen Mirroring which use Wifi--the Mirror Link uses USB in a vehicle and I don't see any Mirror Link applicaitons listed in the Mirrorlink settings, but will search on Google Play Store to see if something would work...

As listed in Dell OptiPlex 9030 Manual you have to reinstall Windows after backing up your files, then installe drivers from the Resource CD, then updated them via Dell's' website. After installing Alienware On-Screen Display again, the HDMI Input port began to work.
