Thank you for your help! Uninstalling and saying a prayer definitely helped. I've been trying to fix this for weeks and was sad that I wasn't able to participate!

Are you receiving the same error as the others, or a different one? This is the error that some of the people in this thread have been seeing:
"/Applications/FamilySearchIndexing/indexing.familysearch.org/.install4j/Messages.bundle/Contents/Resources/de.lproj/Localizable.strings Could not create this file."

Local mac guru told me to create a new Admin account. Be sure that the account has complete Admin access rights. Log into the admin account and download the installer. Run the installer. Works great. Tried everything else under the sun. It ran perfect, first time!!!!

Had the same problem. I had to switch over to an admin account on my MBAir running El Capitan. Installation worked. Unfortunately, now I'm having other issues.

Thanks for everyone who posted. I'm using lion on my mac and was dealing with the same error referenced throughtout the thread. I did not have to update to capitan, or empty my trash, but I did update java, and remove any/all past indexing files. Oh yeah, and I said a prayer

I had this same problem multiple times, that it wouldn't create the .lproj or .jar files. It was resolved when I changed the settings on my computer to make the user I had an administrator on the computer. Since the installer doesn't ask for an admin username and password, there is no way to validate that you have permission to install program on the computer. Once I made that user account an administrator on the device, it worked great!
