Two adults policy

#1

Post by janettelarsen »

Question: Does the updated policy requiring two adults in a classroom with youth also apply to dropping youth off after an activity? For example, our Primary Activity Days and YW leaders have typically dropped kids off at home after scheduled activities as a service when parents aren't able to pick them up. But does the policy change mean that this is no longer allowed unless there are two adults in the car?

This is how the policy has been taught in our ward. 2 deep leadership for everything. In classes and in cars. Not sure if that is policy across the board but that is what our ward has been taught.

Looking over the material, I can't find anything definitive.
At least two adults must be present at all Church-sponsored activities attended by youth or
children. To protect youth and children, leaders should always avoid one-on-one situations
with a youth or a child unless the leader and young person are clearly visible to nearby adult
leaders.
Handbook2 13.6.24 wrote:A man and a woman should not travel alone together for Church activities, meetings, or assignments unless they are married to each other or are both single.
Local leaders hold the keys to interpreting the policy. But in light of the above quotes, it wouldn't be unreasonable to extend it to traveling in a car. When dealing with safety, I'd think it prudent to error on the side of caution.
