Come Follow Me Teaching

#1

Post by chogan »

On a separate but related note, any suggestions from other units as they work to coordinate the simultaneous teaching of the same lesson topic across these various organizations? We've considered having the Seminary teach the doctrines, SS discuss the principles, and YM/YW classes conduct application discussions...but are still open to the best approaches.

Thanks.

As you carefully review the lesson outlines for each organization starting in January, I think you will find that what you propose is already incorporated. In preparing for stake training, I laid out the outlines of several topics side by side and noticed that the Sunday School does emphasize the doctrine, and the Young Men and Young Women outlines concentrate on understanding and applying gospel doctrines.

I noticed some other interesting differences in emphasis, as well, but I will leave those to you to discover. As for Seminary, their curriculum has not changed, and they have been using some of these "new" teaching principles for some time now. I think under the new program the Seminary teacher(s) become a resource to SS, YM, and YW teachers to know what the youth are already learning.

As for Seminary, they teach their lessons about the Scriptures using a method they call 'sequential scripture teaching'. A lesson may take a block of scripture and each lesson's block will be of varying lengths, based on the subject of the lesson and teach through that block of scripture. Adult Sunday School Gospel Doctrine lessons follow this to some degree, although in a more relaxed format.

The best approach is to teach according to the way the curriculum is designed. Remembering to teach the way Christ taught. Let the spirit guide the discussions and involve the youth as much as possable.
