Out of Unit Leaders

We have an overlay language branch where leaders are responsible for youth in both the ward and branch. We have added leaders from the ward to the branch as out of unit members and given them standard callings so that they can see the information for the youth they serve. We have done the same for the branch leaders who serve with the ward.

Now, LDS Tools seems to have dropped these leaders from their home ward or branch. Is this a glitch in iOS?

(Android still displays them in both units.)

I and several other members of my ward are seeing the same behavior, with the leaders showing up only in the overlay branch (i.e., not in their actual home ward).

It looks like it might be a overlay unit problem. Our out of unit leaders in my YSA ward have no issues showing up in their home wards.

Maybe some code in the iOS app is using a "group by" function that groups using the stake, so the member can't appear in the same stake twice.

We need to do something similar where we will have, for example, a primary presidency with 2 members from one unit and 2 from a different unit. If we add each person to the other ward as an out of unit member and them give them the same callings in both wards, will their records and callings show correctly for each ward? Or will this cause more problems than it solves? Is there a limit to how many out-of-unit members a ward can have?

Not that anyone has run into.

A member can only have one out-of-unit record, so what you propose will work for a combined program for two wards, but not three.

You can do this between two wards and the leaders will have access to the information from both wards.

The only problem I have seen is that if you are using an iOS device to run LDS Tools, the person will disappear from their home ward directory in LDS Tools. This is not a problem with Android, where everything will appear perfectly fine and you will see the person with callings from both ward (even the same calling).

I checked with an iPhone user just today, and the iOS display problem still exists.

But in our ward this is seen as a small disadvantage that is outweighed by the leader having access to the information needed to know the members they serve.

And everything seems to display okay at LDS.org so others can still access the member if needed. Or put them on speed dial or whatever you call it with smart phone these days.

Our stake has two dependent branches where we have a total of about 50 people that have "out of unit" assignments to serve in those branches. On lds.org and in LDS Tools for Android they appear correctly as members of their home wards and holding out of unit callings in the branches.

However, in LDS Tools for Apple iPhone/iPad, many (most) appear incorrectly as members of the branch and not as members of their home Ward. There seems to be some dependency on an alphabetical ranking. For example, one member whose last name begins with "B" is shown correctly, while one whose last name starts with "M" is incorrect.

What are our prospects of getting this fixed? At least in our stake, there are a lot of people that use LDS Tools on their iPhone/iPad rather than using LDS.org, so it's throwing a lot of confusion into the mix. We have received many telephone calls asking how they can fix this.

Since it's unique to LDS Tools on iPhone/iPad, we're hoping there will be an update soon that will fix this.

I'd suggest sending in-app feedback using the contact link in settings, within LDS Tools for iOS. You may want to include a link to the forum discussion to show that multiple people are experiencing the bug, and it might also be helpful to include your unit number and one or two examples in the message you send to them.
