coordinating out-of-unit access with YSA ward in shared building

#1

Post by gregorg »

We are a family + designated Mid-Single overlay ward that shares a building with a YSA ward that was recently pulled out of our stake into a new YSA overlay stake. We have a steady flow of members from the YSA ward into the MS ward, but not many joint activities.

The bishopric of the YSA ward are all from our stake, so they have out-of-unit records and access to both stakes' and wards' calendar and directory info. So they're good.

We are trying to share access to calendar and directory info for our bishopric, and for our and their clerks. We've created out-of-unit records (cf. the tech wiki instructions) and callings for each other, first custom, which didn't work, and now YSA Adviser/Bldg Scheduler. While we can see each others' calendar items now, we still cannot see each others' directories.

Are we missing something here? Thanks.

Is it the LDS.org Directory you're using?
At the top of the LDS.org directory, above where you choose the ward, out-of-unit members can choose which stake to view.

In the LDS Tools mobile app, you can switch which ward/stake you're viewing by tapping the titlebar where it says the ward name.

The problem turns out to be impatience.

A day after the callings were switched from custom to standard, it propagated in whatever CHQ cloud runs LCR, and both unit directories are visible.

I think it works because you're leaders with out-of-unit callings, right? One of the problems I find having a unit from another stake in our building is that we don't have access to each other's directories. Many times, that would be helpful. We share the building and need to communicate with each other. Sometimes we even have activities together.

Speaking as a member from the said YSA stake the the OP a referring to, I also have this issue in the building which 2 of the YSA wards share the building with the SA ward cant see anything in terms of calendar. It would be nice to have access to both the calendar and directory for both stakes for the convenience of communications between the wards. I know that the bishopric and their wives in my YSA wards all have access to both directories along with being out of unit records. The wives were given standard callings since they were encouraged to be involved in the YSA wards. The solution that came up was to just create a spreadsheet or calendar that can be shareable via Google Drive and basicly use that for people to see what is going on and to reserve the building if needed.

Properly set up, the calendar will coordinate the use of the buildings. It's just a matter of getting the location setup properly.

Sharing activities (joint activities) and contact information is a different matter. There is no good way at this time. I'd suggest submitting feedback on the main LDS site or asking the stake president to take the matter up with the area authority. This forum is mostly used to user support with no authority to make the change.
