New.LDS.org Calendar Sync Suggestion
With the old calendar and the new calendar being maintained in parallel for the next year and a half, there should be a way to have to old ward and stake calendars show up as a calendar in the new system. If you could edit it in either and it would sync either way, that would be great, but even if you could only edit it in the old system, it would at least provide a way to transition easier from the old to the new without having to maintain all the events in two places.

If the following statement quoted from the WIKI page on transitioning to the new calendar is correct, you will be able to import events from the old to the new calendar.benjamincarleski wrote:With the old calendar and the new calendar being maintained in parallel for the next year and a half, there should be a way to have to old ward and stake calendars show up as a calendar in the new system. By the time the old calendar is discontinued, the new calendar will include the ability to import events from the old calendar.

I'd have to let the calendar developers comment on the feasibility of your suggestion. However, in our stake, we are taking a different approach.benjamincarleski wrote:With the old calendar and the new calendar being maintained in parallel for the next year and a half, there should be a way to have to old ward and stake calendars show up as a calendar in the new system. Our current plan (depending on the official rollout of the new calendar) is to only have one official calendar. We may need to adjust these dates, but here's our basic plan:
- Manually copy all events for November and December 2010 from the old calendar to the new calendar.
- Put all 2011 events on the new calendar.
- As changes are made to the old calendar for Nov/Dec 2010, make the corresponding changes to the new calendar.
- Sometime in October, tell everyone in the stake that we are switching to the new calendar effective November 1.
- Starting November 1, no events submitted to the old calendar will be accepted.
Some stakes may want more than a 2 month overlap, and of course these dates can be shifted. But when we switch to the new calendar, the old calendar will be discontinued. Maintaining two calendars for a whole year sounds like a pain for the schedulers and confusing for the members.

I don't know if that statement is correct, but from other indications in that same article, that date (when the old calendar is discontinued) is over a year away. So this import capability might help stakes that stick with the old calendar for another year, but won't be much help for stakes that want to move to the new calendar sooner.danpass wrote:If the following statement quoted from the WIKI page on transitioning to the new calendar is correct, you will be able to import events from the old to the new calendar.
