Event - Location / No Location

#1

Post by emwel »

Just beginning to use calendar. When I try to schedule an event, under "Event Details", I have only two options to pick from in the drop down "Location". They are either "Location" or "No Location". Shouldn't I be able to pick my building?

The stake has to check a box to allow the buildings to be scheduled.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Welcome to the Forum!

That is where the buildings will show up when the stake sets it up. Are you "the stake?" If you are a stake admin, you could set it up to allow scheduling (see the help.) If you are a ward leader you could ask your stake to set it up. Talk to your stake Exec secretary or a Clerk.

In the meantime, you can still use the calendar for your events without online scheduling activated. You should have the options "no location" or "other location." Choose "other location" and type in the building (if needed) and room it will be held in. In that way, your membership still can have the benefits of an online calendar to tell them what is happening and how they can be involved, which I see as the priority of the calender. You would need to reserve that building/room the way your stake currently does it for your event, of course.

If your stake leadership is unsure and have not used it yet, perhaps a stake leader could set up a "test location/building" and a private "test calendar" and the stake leaders could try it out by entering some events and scheduling their test buildings to get their feet wet for a week or two. Or, maybe a live demonstration in a stake leadership meeting would help them decide. The test location(s) really could be your actual buildings, set up with the correct rooms, with "allow this building to be scheduled by wards" checked, but renamed "Do Not Use: test building 1(2 or3)" so nobody elsewhere in the stake thinks building scheduling has "gone live" when it hasn't.

We all will start somewhere....
