Post by sbradshaw »

Gospel Library 5.0 for Android has been released on the Google Play Store and will be available soon on the Amazon Appstore (for Kindle Fire devices). Gospel Library 5.0 for Android supports Android 4.4 and later. Here are the release notes:

In Gospel Library 5, we provide quick and easy access to gospel materials. We have made several changes to reduce the size and frequency of content updates. We are also introducing better navigation throughout the app.

NEW:
• Added background content updating to minimize updates while using the app.
• Reduced the size of the app by downloading and storing content more efficiently.
• Added chapter grid for quicker navigation in the scriptures.
• Added Speakers and Topics tabs in the General Conference section.
• Added speaker names to subtitles for general conference talks in search and notes.
• Search shows all results in a single list.
• Added a menu option for printing content.
• Picture-in-picture support for videos (Android 8+).
• Simplified verse call-out style when following links.
• Audio player shows a message when it automatically switches to text-to-speech.
• Added Audio and Screen settings to the Settings section of the app.
• Added 3x option to the audio playback speed.
• Added ability to re-enter your LDS Account password without signing out.
• Added ability to remove downloaded languages from the Languages menu.
• Added App Details section in Settings for better troubleshooting.
• Added support for app links using Gospel Library Online URLs.
• Updated sharing to use Gospel Library Online URLs.

FIXED:
• Bug where Define button didn't work on some devices.
• Bug where footnote links to content outside of Gospel Library failed to load.
• Bug where changes to a note weren't always reflected after saving.
• Bug where Limit Mobile Network Use didn't prevent video streaming.
• Bug where audio stopped playing while navigating the app.
• Bug where audio player stopped working after pausing and switching apps.
• Bug where continuous play didn't work while casting audio.
• Bug where audio stopped playing when the next chapter didn't have audio.
• Bug where male and female audio recordings weren't separated in Downloaded Media.
• Bug where screens disappeared when toggling "Show Screens as Separate Windows" on or off.

I have had to download most content again. This is important to note, so that you will be able to get the things you need downloaded at home or elsewhere before you head to Church on Sunday, or else you are in for a big surprise.

I discovered it with the first bookmark I clicked on as I was preparing to teach Sunday.

Yes, the new content format requires books to be downloaded again – thanks for pointing that out. Books are smaller, so they will download faster than before. Hopefully releasing on Wednesday will help some (giving people time to update before Sunday).

Thank you for figuring out how to "background" the updates. No more staring at Moroni at the beginning of family scripture study. :)

I have a Kindle Fire 10 (7th generation) and Gospel Library 5.0.3. Anytime I want to download video for offline viewing it just crashes. Even with the new update I am still having trouble. I'd love to take my tablet to church to show videos, but I haven't been able to. Right now I'm trying to show the New Testament Stories. I can see the book and read the text, but everytime I click the download button nothing happens. Please help.

Do you have a lot of free storage space on your device (enough to download a video)? Are you connected to a strong internet connection when downloading?
