Personal Progress Question

#1

Post by UhrichCS »

I have a request from the Young Women's organization in our Ward. They have a Personal Progress leader and they want her to be able to see the personal progress section on lds.org. What do I need to do as a Ward Membership Clerk in MLS to make it so she can see this on lds.org. I have added her calling as a custom calling "Personal Progress" and she is also in the leadership section. However, we she logs into lds.org she still cant see any of the personal progress. Does anyone know? Sorry if this has already been asked, but I didnt see it in the search feature.

Cory,
Unfortunately Custom Callings are not recognized in regards to having any special access priviledges. I suspect that she would need to be given one of the standard callings such as a counselor in the YW organization. However, I don't personally have a list of the callings that would give her that access. Perhaps someone else can provide the calling that would be required.

That's what I figured, but I only see four delivered leadership callings. President, 1st Councillor, 2nd Councillor, and Secretary. She is none of these so maybe this request isnt possible. Maybe this should be an enhancement request for the developers?

I would agree. To make such a request you need to use the Feedback link at the bottom of LDS.ORG. This will get your comment to the correct department much faster than posting it here in the forum.

I don't think so. Review Question 1 on the Personal Progress Frequently Asked Questions, where it says that the YW presidency, not a specialist, should work with the young women on Personal Progress. So the web site is simply allowing access in line with what the General YW Presidency has counseled should be done.

EDIT: Updated link and question # to match current website

Thanks for the link. I will send that onto the YM Presidency and the Bishop.

Because of the number of YW in our ward, we did have a personal progress leader. We later made that sister an assistant YW secretary (another non-standard calling). To provide this sister with the ability to have access to the personal progress website, our bishop authorized her to be entered into MLS as an additional adviser in all three YW classes. Advisers have permissions to update YW on the personal progress site. Some may construe this as working around the system, which it was. It was done with the permission and guidance of our priesthood leaders.

Respectfully, I see nothing in the policy statement that says there should not be specialists called to work with the Young Women on their Personal Progress, it simply says that it should not be ONLY ONE specialist. The policy also states clearly that the Young Women Presidency and Priesthood Leaders should counsel together to determine the best way to accomplish the goals of the program, and that "other mentors" may assist in the program.

Although the statement in the FAQ does allow more flexibility than my original statement, the fact remains that there is no standard calling for a "Personal Progress Specialist" and thus there is no special access for anyone given that calling. That access is restricted to YW leaders with actual standard callings in the YW program.

Unfortunately you can make your point about what you think the policy is but it is certain that the programmers have followed guidance they received as to what callings should be given permission to have access. What callings have permission is based on the available standard positions. It is not currently possible to program permissions to include custom positions. This would require significant programming resources to accomplish.

It is not currently possible for the programmers to know who the local leadership has determined to be able to assist in the program. This is a current limitation of the online tracking program. Privacy and security of the youth is a preeminent issue that places necessary access restrictions. For now only the standard positions associated with the Bishopric and Young Women Presidency have online access.
