Missionary: missionaries serving in your ward.
Since the directory has a missionary section I thought that this might be the right area to post this thread. I've noticed that several wards in my stake have names and pictures of missionaries serving in their units. All my ward has is missionaries serving from our ward and the ward mission leader. I've brought this up to the ward clerk he doesn't know how these names are added to the ward website. I'm the website admin and know most all of the information comes from the MLS system. Is this done at the ward MLS level if so let me know how its done to help our clerk. Is it done by the mission office?

Yes, I believe that's the case.pierce1of5 wrote: Is it done by the mission office?

No. It is done by the Missionary Department. See this post from a Church employee (there is are other relevant posts in that lengthy thread, but that thread unfortunately contains multiple conversations).

Unless the local mission president is part of the Missionary Department how would they know when the unit transfers happen out in the mission field? This is so unit websites will have the current missionaries serving there.aebrown wrote:No. It is done by the Missionary Department. Your post talked about both the missionaries serving in your ward and those serving from your ward. When you asked your question about "these names", the previous sentence had been discussing the missionaries serving from your ward, so I assumed that was what you were asking about. But now I can tell that you were asking about the missionaries serving in your ward. For that question, my answer is still correct, but a bit misleading. As you can read in this post, the source of the data is indeed the Missionary Department, but that particular data is sent to the Missionary Department by each mission office under the direction of the mission president.pierce1of5 wrote:Unless the local mission president is part of the Missionary Department how would they know when the unit transfers happen out in the mission field? The "Assigned Missionaries" section (where it lists missionaries serving IN your ward) is controlled by the mission office via IMOS (Internet Mission Office System). This is the system where they make missionary transfers and assignments.
If it's incorrect, you'll have to contact your local mission office. If they (mission office) don't know how to correct it, they can contact the Global Service Center (1-855-537-4357 or Help@ldschurch.org).
I work in the Missionary Department, and I occasionally get questions about this section of the LDS.org directory. In a previous post, someone suggested adding a "List Incorrect?" link on the "Assigned Missionaries" section - I agree completely. Perhaps it will alleviate some unnecessary confusion.
