Watch this thread for announcements when we upgrade the beta version of the Lesson Scheduler.

If you have comments about the updates, please create them in a separate thread, so that this thread becomes a simple list of update announcements.

We have upgraded the beta version of Lesson Scheduler to rev. 447.

In addition, we have fixed the database so you can now create courses and they will stick around.

Rev. 475 of Lesson Scheduler is now in beta.

First of all, let me say thanks for all the participation and great feedback. I've been too busy to comment on every thread here, but they have all been reviewed and contributed to several changes to the code.

There are too many changes to this build to list here, but here is a quick summary of the major issues:
- Fixed bug where you couldn't change the auxiliary when creating course
- Added Website Administrator (ward/branch) as default admin
- Added an auto-template function to automatically provision all the lessons in the chosen manual
- Fixed the sign-out link
- Lots of backend clean-up

KNOWN ISSUES or changes yet to come:
- Several fixes yet to be made when creating events and applying them to courses
- Course names overlap in the Create Event screen
- No mechanism for applying Events to Courses created after the Event was created
- Fix instructors to use preferred name

Rev. 506 is now in Beta. Changes include:

- Layout changes to the main view
- Administration link renamed (to Manage Class Schedules) and moved along side the rest of the links at the top of the app
- UI improvements for creating events
- When you choose to apply an event to 'All' classes, it will apply to classes created after the event was created as well
- Events can now be applied to courses that are not yet activated
- Now using preferred name for class teachers
- Manual/chapter links switched to use https, so you won't get signed out when visiting a lesson link
- Clicking on a lesson link now opens the LDS.Org chapter in a new tab
- Added a year field to classes so you can create classes for next year (once the curriculum for that year is available)
- Several other minor changes

The code for the Lesson Scheduler has been updated to revision 525, with the following changes:

- Added sorting to some lists (sorting on the main page is still coming)
- Back-end fixes for updating manuals as new ones come available
- Added better support for multiple years (mostly useful toward the end of each year)
- Fix the date picker pop-ups to only allow Sundays to be selected
- Multiple small UI tweaks and fixes

We are planning a reset of the database today or tomorrow. The database reset will delete any classes you have created so far in the beta. It may not happen directly in sync with the deploy of new code, so you may not see the data changes right away.

We are now getting really close to removing the 'Beta' label. This means that you'll be able to start configuring your real class information, and the data will be permanent. We will reset the data once more before that happens, so feel free to continue using it as an experimental sandbox until you hear otherwise. As long as you see the 'BETA PRE-RELEASE' message when you log in, you're free to do whatever you want. Once this message goes away, we won't be resetting the data anymore.

We have updated to version 1.0RC (rev 564) of the Lesson Scheduler.

This is our candidate for a 1.0 release. When we officially "release" 1.0, we will delete the existing data and reset the database. From that point on, we will persist all your changes, and you should start treating the data like production. We plan to do this as early as tomorrow, but possibly as late as Monday. Please note that until that change is made, you should still expect your data to be deleted. I'll make a final announcement (as obviously as I can make it) when we make that final change.

Here is a list of known issues/items we plan to address in the near future:

- Stake Admin. There is still no provision for stake leaders to create master schedules for their stake. All default classes are being created from a simple template based on the appropriate manual for that class. In order to allow stake leaders to help wards to use this app, stake leaders have been granted the ability to use the admin screens for their own wards. In other words, stake leaders are considered ward admins for their own ward for the purpose of being able to see and understand the same screens that other ward admins in the stake will be using.

- Automate creation/adjustment of lesson schedules. We have added some rudimentary functionality for the automatic creation of classes and provisioning of lesson schedules. However, when a ward admin adds events (like General Conference), we do not yet have a solution for updating all following events. To address this, we have added functionality to account for events when an admin creates a new class, but that will not fix the classes that automatically get generated when the first ward member logs in to the app. We do plan on having a solution for this eventually.

- Multiple instructors. Right now you can only add a single instructor to a class or lesson. We realize that most classes have multiple instructors that teach on a regular schedule, and we plan to accomodate this in the future. Right now you can assign a single instructor for a class, or manually add a different instructor to each week's lesson.

Thank you so much for all your input on this project. There have been a lot of good ideas that we have added to our backlog for improving this application as time goes on. Please continue to use the forum to provide any additional feedback, or to report issues as you find them.
