Winners Announced for the Gospel App & Game Contest Print

Thursday, October 16, 2014, the winners of the Gospel Games and App Contest were announced by Blaine Maxfield, CIO of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the LDSTech Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Almost all of the contest entrants are now, or will be, available in the various app stores, and the URLs are at https://tech.lds.org/wiki/ContestApps

Developers from the United States and several other countries submitted games and apps for the contest. A total of 80 potential entrants were submitted, many in the final hours of the deadline day (Oct. 10). Most were for Android platform, several were for iOS and a few were windows based.

The contest had three divisions for the games and apps: Primary, Youth and Family. Almost a dozen Honorable Mentions were asked to...

 stand to be recognized. Then the First, Second and Third place award winners were announced.

For the Primary Category: Third Place went to Catherine (An illustrated interactive true pioneer story tells of a convert family’s journey to Zion from the perspective of a child. Engaging interaction for families.) by Michael, Janet and Wade Hatch; Second Place was LDS Children’s Activity app (An app for children who need something to get them through sacrament meeting. Various games including memory, 2048 and simon.) by Corban Anderson; with First Place honors going to Quiet Games for LDS Children (Five LDS Games that are quiet, fun and ad-free for General Conference or Church) by Clint, Rachel and Kristen Johnson.

Youth winners are: Third Place, Mormon Tube (Mormon-related videos into on app for easy access to clean, uplift content. Search, watch and get notified about new videos with the app.), by Dustin Hill; Second Place, Scripture Fling (An exciting way to quickly connect verses with their references. All 100 Scripture Mastery verses are included, each set with four levels of difficulty.) by Kevin, Kammi and Matt Pyles; First Place, Scripture Mastery SUPERSTAR! (Memorize the D&C seminary scripture masteries in a new and fun way that combines text, voice acting, animation and other mnemonic devices that help cement the concepts in your mind!) by Nick Pasto, Megan and Jonathon Chan, and Eric Haddad.

The Family division winners are: Third Place, My Mission (LDS) (My Mission helps LDS missionaries organize and share their favorite missionary pictures, stories, and experiences with their family and friends back home. – Also available on Android and in Spanish) by Kevin, Sean, Lindsey, Loni, David Wade, Veronica Bendersky, Laura Leibson, Matt Taylor; Second Place, LDS Tweets Free (Collection of Twitter feeds including official accounts from the Church) by Trevor Holyoak; First Place, Scripture Charts.com (This is a free online scripture reading chart that allows you to track what you have read.) by Cassie Wooley.

Honorable Mentions include eleven (11) winners and eighteen (18) creators: Letter Legends: Scripture Mastery by Joseph Smith Jr., Juna Duncan ; Who Wants to be a Missionary? By Sebastian P. Cortes; Manna Mania by Jon Worthington, Alan Pehrson, Matt Morey; LDS Convention system, Cassie Wooley; Word Press Ward by May Bo Hubbard; LDS Puzzler Temple by Logan Steel and Wes McBride; AB See by Michael Stringham; Over Sea Over Plains by Wade, Michael and Janet Hatch; Gospel Treasures by Adam Beers; LDS Apostles by Geoffrey Draper, Meilan Jin; LDS Podcasts Free by Trevor Holyoak.

Friday the People’s Choice awards were announced just before the keynote speech by Steve Peterson, director of field management in ICS, the Church’s IT department. The three winners, selected by LDSTech Conference attendees, include My Mission (LDS), (My Mission helps LDS missionaries organize and share their favorite missionary pictures, stories, and experiences with their family and friends back home. (Memorize the D&C seminary scripture masteries in a new and fun way that combines text, voice acting, animation and other mnemonic devices that help cement the concepts in your mind!) by Nick Pasto, Megan and Jonathon Chan, and Eric Haddad; Lehi’s Escape (Play as Lehi in a full 3D environment during 600 B.C. Jerusalem. Talk to key players, get missions, learn principles, then Go and Do! Watch for the rest of Lehi’s journey in the next game.) developed by Freeman and Alejandra Hyzer.
