Visiting teaching

The purpose of visiting teaching is to support, comfort and build caring relationships with each sister in the ward or branch. [1]

Visiting teaching organization

The visiting teaching organization is set up in MLS to help create districts, companionships and assign sisters to be taught.

Visiting teaching districts

To reach the screen where you can add, change, or delete visiting teaching districts and district supervisors, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Organization menu, click VT Districts.

To add a visiting teaching district supervisor

  1. In the Visiting Teaching Districts section, click Add.
  2. In the Organization field, click on the down arrow and click Relief Society.
  3. In the District Supervisor field, click Select and choose the district supervisor from the list that appears.
  4. Enter the date this person was sustained in this calling in the format shown on the screen.
  5. Click Add.

To change a visiting teaching district supervisor

  1. In the Visiting Teaching Districts section, click the name of the visiting teaching supervisor.
  2. In the District Supervisor field, click Select and choose the new district leader from the list that appears.
  3. Enter the date this person was sustained in this calling in the format shown on the screen.
  4. Click Save.

To renumber visiting teaching districts

  1. Click Renumber Districts.
  2. In the New District Numbering field, click the name of the visiting teaching district supervisor you want to renumber.
  3. Click on Move Up and Move Down until the district is numbered the way you want.
  4. Repeat step 4 as needed.
  5. Click Save.

Visiting teaching companionships

To reach the screen where you can add, edit, or remove visiting teaching companionships and add sisters to visit to those companionships, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Organization menu, click VT Companionships.

To add a visiting teaching companionship

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and click the name of the district supervisor you want to add a companionship to. (You can also choose All.)
  2. Click the Add Companionship button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. In the Visiting Teaching Companionship section, click Add.
  4. In the Show field, click the down arrow and click Unassigned Relief Society Sisters.
  5. Click the name of the sister you want to assign to a companionship. Click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for the other sister you want in the companionship.
  7. Add sisters to be taught to this companionship (see instructions below).
  8. Click Save & Next. Add another companionship if needed.
  9. When finished click Save & Close.

To add a sister to a companionship to be taught

  1. In the Sisters Taught by this Companionship section, click Add.
  2. In the Show field, click the down arrow and click Unassigned Relief Society Sisters.
  3. Click the name of the sister you want to assign to a companionship to be taught. Click OK.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the other sisters you want to assign to this companionship.
  5. When finished adding all sisters you want to this companionship, click Save & Next.
  6. When finished, click Save & Close.

To remove a visiting teaching companionship

  1. In the View By field, click Companionship.
  2. In the Companionship block, click Remove.

To edit visiting teaching companionships

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and click the correct district supervisor.
  2. In the View By field, click on the down arrow, and click on the way you want to present assignments on the screen (Companionship or Visiting Teacher).
  • If you click Visiting Teacher, in the Find Visiting Teacher field, enter the name of the visiting teacher you want. This visiting teacher will appear at the top of the list.
  1. Click Edit. Make changes as needed.

Sisters being taught

To reach the screen where you can view, change, or print a list of sisters being taught, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Organization menu, click Sisters Being Taught. Use this screen to assign visiting teaching companionships to teach sisters.

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow. Click the district supervisor whose district you want to edit.
  2. In the Find Sister Being Taught field, enter the name of the sister you want to assign visiting teachers to, or use the scroll bar to locate the sister's name.
  3. On the right end of the line with the sister's name, click Assign.
  4. Click inside the circle to create a visiting teaching companionship to teach this sister or to assign the sister to an existing companionship.
  5. Click OK. Follow one of the two instructions (A or B) below.

If you clicked on the circle to assign the sister to an existing companionship

  1. Click the name of a visiting teacher in the companionship.
  2. Click OK.

If you clicked on the circle to create a visiting teaching companionship to teach the sister

  1. In the Visiting Teaching Companionship section, click Add.
  2. In the Show field, click the down arrow and click Unassigned Relief Society Sisters.
  3. Click the name of the sister you want to assign to a companionship. Click OK.
  4. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the other sister you want in the companionship.
  5. Click Save & Close.

Using the Add Companionship button

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and select the district leader to assign this companionship to.
  2. Click Add Companionship.
  3. Click Change District. Click the district you want to add a companionship to. Click OK.
  4. In the Visiting Teaching Companionship section, click Add.
  5. In the Show field, click the down arrow and select Unassigned Relief Society Sisters.
  6. Click a sister's name and click OK.
  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for the other member of the companionship.
  8. To assign families to be visit taught by this companionship, in the Sisters Taught by this Companionship section, click Add. Choose sisters to be visit taught by this companionship.
  9. To add another companionship, click Save & Next.
  10. When finished adding companionships, click Save & Close.

Visiting teaching assigments

To reach the screen where you can view visiting teaching companionships and the sisters that are assigned to those companionships, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Organization menu, click VT Assignments.

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and click the name of the district supervisor you want to print a report for. (You may also click All.)
  2. Click the check box next to each companionship you want on the report.
  3. Click Print Selected Assignments.

Sisters report

To reach the screen where you can view the sisters that are assigned to visiting teaching companionships, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Organization menu, click Sisters Report.

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and click the name of the of the district supervisor you want to print a Sisters Report for. (You may also click All.)
  2. Click the check box next to each sister you want on the report.
  3. Click Print Selected Assignments.

Visiting teaching reporting

Visits to each sister in the ward or branch are to be recorded each month. This allows for the Relief Society presidency to determine an accurate picture of the needs to the sisters in the ward or branch.

Enter visiting teaching contacts

To reach the screen where you can record visiting teaching contacts, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations Menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Reporting menu, click Enter VT Contacts.

To record visiting teaching contacts

  1. In Show for District field, click down arrow and choose the district leader from the list that appears. (You may also choose All.)
  2. In the View By field, click the down arrow and click Companionship.
  3. In the column for the correct month, click the box if a visit was made. Do not check the box if no visit was made. A visit may be a face-to-face contact, a phone call or a letter.
  4. Repeat for each companionship or sister.
  5. When you have finished recording contacts for each sister, you may click Preview or Print to see or print a report.
  6. Click Close.

To record visiting teaching contacts for previous months

  1. Click the line in the Contacts column that shows a percentage. A window will appear.
  2. In the Contacts column of the window, click the down arrow and choose Visit, Phone, or Letter for each month the sister was contacted.
  3. Click Save.

To assign sisters that have not been assigned visiting teachers

  1. In the Sisters Not Assigned to be Taught section, find the name of the sister you want to assign.
  2. Click Assign.
  3. Click inside the circle to create a new visiting teaching companionship to teach this sister or assign the sister to an existing companionship.
  4. Click OK. Follow one of the two options below.

To assign the sister to an existing companionship

  1. Click the name of a visiting teacher in the companionship.
  2. Click OK.

To create a companionship to visit teach the sister

  1. In the Visiting Teaching Organization and District section click Change District and choose the district this new companionship will be in.
  2. In the Visiting Teaching Companionship section, click Add.
  3. In the Show field, click the down arrow and click either All Relief Society Sisters or Unassigned Relief Society Sisters.
  4. Click the name of the sister you want to assign to a companionship. Click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the other sister you want in the companionship.
  6. Click Save & Close.

Print blank visiting teaching reports

Relief Society leaders and visiting teaching supervisors may want a blank version of the report of visiting teaching contacts so they can use it as a worksheet while making calls or visits to visiting teachers to get their reports. Then the worksheet can be used to enter the visiting teaching contacts in the computer.

  1. In the Show for District field, click the down arrow and choose the district leader from the list that appears. (You may also choose All.)
  2. In the Months to Display field, click the down arrow and select the amount of months you want to appear on the blank report.
  3. Click Preview or Print to see or print the report.
  4. When finished, click Close.

Visiting teaching statistics

To reach the screen where you can print a report of visiting teaching statistics, begin at the main MLS screen. On the Organizations Menu, click Home and Visiting Teaching. On the VT Reporting menu, click VT Statistics.   Use the steps below in the order given:

  1. In the Sections to Show field, click the down arrow and click the sections of the statistics you want to show on the screen or print.
  2. In the Sisters Not Visited section, click the down arrow and click the number of consecutive months you want displayed that each sister was not contacted.
  3. In the Sisters Not Assigned to Be Taught section, nothing needs to be done to print the correct statistics. You may click Assign to make a change.
  4. In the Unassigned Potential Visiting Teachers section, nothing needs to be done to print the correct statistics. You may click Assign to make a change.
  5. Click Print.
