Internet filtering
As described above, the firewall performs both a security and filtering function. The filter blocks inappropriate sites on the Internet as well as harmful attacks from malicious users. Filtering is automatically configured with a single filtering policy with the new meetinghouse firewall.

Preparing meetinghouse computers to go online
After you set up the firewall and go online, you need to ensure your Church computers are protected with the latest security software. Sophos, the Church-designated security software, includes anti-virus, intrusion prevention, firewall, and other protective features. It's available to install for free on any official meetinghouse computer. (If you still have Symantec installed, you should uninstall it.)
Nota: Ideally, install Sophos prior to installing the Internet. To do this without Internet access, you would need to download Sophos onto a flash drive where you do have access, and then take the drive to your meetinghouse to install it on your church computers.
If Sophos is installed, you'll see a gray shield in the icons near your computer clock. You can also look for Sophos in your list of installed programs. If it's not present, go to mls.lds.org and download and install Sophos.
Sophos is only licensed for official Church computers. Non Church-managed or personally-owned computing devices should also have security software similar to Sophos installed as part of or in addition to their anti-malware suites. Windows Firewall is freely available for Windows XP and newer Microsoft Windows operating systems. Other software firewalls are also available for Windows and other operating systems.
