What to bring
You’ll need to bring your own laptop to the conference. Wifi access will be available, but not network ports (due to security restrictions), so make sure your laptop has wireless capability. Also remember your power cords. Plenty of power stations will be available for you to stay charged up. Mobile devices will also be needed if you have them. If you plan to help with Android, iOS or doing any other mobile work, don't forget to bring them.
As for what to wear, the dress code at the Riverton Office Building, where the conference takes place, is casual to business casual clothing. Jeans are acceptable, but avoid shorts and sandals.
Connecting to wifi
Wifi will be available to you during the conference. To connect to the wifi:
- Browse the available wireless networks and connect to hills network.
- Open browser and point it at tech.lds.org
- Enter lds in the First name field.
- Enter tech in the Last name field.
Note that for security reasons, you cannot plug directly into a network port. Make sure your laptop has wireless capability.
If you can’t attend the conference in person, you can join many sessions via streaming technology. We will post more details about the sessions that will be streamed as the conference approaches. To view the stream, you need only a computer and high speed Internet connection. If you are participating remotely, you do not need to register for the conference. (Registration applies only to attendees coming to Riverton. Registration counts help us plan room sizes, food, and other details.)
The 2012 LDSTech Conference will feature a new "Idea Showcase" session designed to give you the chance to share your software and technology project ideas for potential sponsorship. If you have a great idea for a Church application, or have already developed an application on your own and want to see it become an official Church application, this is your chance to communicate this information to Church employees. To learn more, see Sharing ideas for Church projects.
Nearly 50 presentations are scheduled for the 2012 LDSTech Conference. When you attend a presentation, you can add your notes to a wiki page for the presentation. The notes you add will form a collectively written article about the presentation. Presenters can also add notes to their presentation page. Keep in mind that this is a wiki, so notes you add may be edited by someone else. See 2012 LDSTech Conference presentation notes for a list of presentation wiki pages.
Avoiding construction delays
There is some construction on Bangerter Highway near 7800 South and Redwood Road near 9400 South. If you plan to drive in from the north and want to use Bangerter Highway or Redwood Road instead of I-15, you may want to check Utah CommuterLink for details on construction projects.
Additionally, there is more construction at the intersection of W 13400 S and Market Center Drive (near the entrance to the ROB). You can actually drive through it, but if you want to avoid it, do the following from Bangerter Highway:
- If you're coming from the north (SLC), turn left on W 12600 S instead of W 13400 S. Then turn right on S 3600 W.
- If you're coming from the south (Provo), turn right on S 2700 W, and then left on W 13400 S.
Remote Broadcast Location
In the case that we exceed building occupancy at the ROB, additional space is available at 4080 W 12600 S, Riverton, UT 84096. A shuttle is available for those attending at the remote location.
Overflow parking is available in the Kohl’s parking lot, southeast of the Riverton Office Building.
