The Family History Center (FHC) has the data files from the IGI CDs on a USB drive that is connected to one of the FHC computers.

The USB drive has been mapped to the other computer(s) at the FHC.

When one runs Temple Ready on the computer with the USB drive connected to it Temple Ready accesses the IGI files on the USB drive and does not ask for the user to load the IGI CDs.

However, when one runs Temple Ready on another computer, Temple Ready asks the user to load the IGI CDs but does not access the IGI files the mapped USB drive.

If one starts Temple Ready on a computer without the USB drive then runs autorun.bat on the USB drive, then Temple Ready will access the IGI files on the USB drive.

How does one set up Temple Ready on a computer without the USB drive to access the IGI files on the mapped USB drive?

I assume you are using the Windows version of TempleReady.

Uninstall TempleReady and re-install it. During the install, tell it the files are on the network and give it the URL to the shared drive.

I've tried and have others, but none have found a way to change a stand-alone TempleReady into a network-capable TempleReady without re-installing it.

Keep in mind that you'll have to map the two files folder to the right "level". Go too deep or not deep enough in the folder structure and it won't see the files and will ask for a CD.

I had considered uninstalling Temple Ready and reinstalling it. However, I could not find a SetUp.exe file for Temple Ready on the hard drive and could not find any CDs with Temple Ready.

Am I not looking in the correct place or am I not looking for the correct files on the hard drive?

I don't know if it can be re-installed from the hard drive. It originally came on a CD, but I know what it can be like trying to find it. If you do find a CD, make sure it's the current version. I think it's 2.1.

If your FHC director does not have a TempleReady for windows CD, Have the director order a new one from FH support. Also check with the Stake technology specialist. He/she may keep the "originals". We ran the same type of set up for a long time. We now have the IGI and addendum information on each machine. If something happens to one machine the others can still run TR without using the CDs. The feasibility of this type of setup depends on the number of computers that your FHC has and how much hard drive space each computer has. The New FamilySearch will eliminate the need for TR in the FHC’s. Investing very much money in drive space may not be wise. A “network” type install from the CD will be needed on each computer. Since you have all the data on a USB drive, it will be easy to transfer the data to each computer if they have the needed space.

Thank you. I'll asj the FHC Director order the latest CD from Family History Support. The stake technology specialist does not have the CDs.
