Unit history tool

#1

Post by adamhaymond »

I have recently been called to serve as Stake Clerk and today I was perusing the Handbook and stumbled across section 33.7.1 Ward and Stake Histories.

In the 4th paragraph it states that "Stake and ward priesthood and organization leaders contribute stories using the Unit History Tool at https://unithistory.churchofjesuschrist.org, yet when you go there you only get a message that says
Not Yet Available
We're sorry, your unit has not been authorized to access the Unit History tool at this time.
Eventually, most units will be given access. When your unit is authorized, please refer to communication from your unit leaders on how to access and contribute to your unit history.
I am wondering why this information is already released in the handbook but the tool itself is not readily available. Also why will "most units" be given access and not all units?

Does anyone have further information on what the crew at the Riverton Office Building is up to with this?

My understanding is it is being rolled out to stakes in phases. No idea what that methodology is.

Your stake should receive a notice when it goes live for you. As we all know, more often than not, such notifications are the ideal situation but not the reality. I receive the same message when attempting to access but added it on my to-do list to spot check every month or so.

I noticed our stake now has access to the tool even though we didn't get notified. Does anybody know if we should compile our 2023 report and send that in as we have done in the past or just start using the new tool?

We also just got access to the tool this week and are putting stories on there, but the Area Church History Adviser told us a couple of weeks ago to just submit the history like we have always done, since they weren't sure when this tool was actually going to be up and running. Hopefully your Stake History Specialist will know how to submit for 2023.

Unit tools went live mid Dec here, I have served as a stake history specialist for over 16years so going digital was a pleasure but unfortunately I hold a branch clerk and stake history specialist calling but I find when inputting as branch clerk all is Fine the system has two windows at the top of the page showing drop down window as the system recognises both my calling the branch input is fine and works well but when I try to input stake history the system alway defaults to my unit calling plus when in the branch window the top bar shows
Create Story
My Stories
Manage
Help
But when in as stake calling it only shows home and not Create Story, My Stories, Manage, Help the quick guide is essential reading but my main problem just now is the system always default to the branch plus I was put on the system as a custom calling and the system doesn’t recognise custom calling.

Can anyone tell me should the branch and the stake show the same information window? And why dose the system default to branch?

When I had two callings, the system defaulted to the ward/branch calling. But I was always able to use the drop down menu by my name and select the stake calling when I needed it.

You are right that a custom calling gives no privileges, but a standard calling should. Your clerk should be able to change any custom calling you have to a standard calling.

And I would think that a similar menu for history would show in both places, since the stake is responsible for writing a history, too.

Would someone with access to the tool mind taking a screenshot of the "Roles and Callings" section of the Quick Start Guide showing who the authorized "authors" are and posting it here?
We are not yet allowed access, but I would like to begin training the appropriate "authors" so that we can hit the ground running when our Stake is allowed access.
Thanks.
