Removing child record as head of household

#1

Post by lloyd.gloekler »

We have a record where the child was placed with a relative and came into the ward as a stand alone record, "head of household". The parent, "mother", came into the ward at a later date and the child was included on her move in record. We now have two member records for the child, what is the best way to get rid of the child as "head of household" record?

The procedure is to open the household record in which the child is listed as the head of household and click the "remove" link for the child in the "Head of Household" section. You will be prompted to select the destination for the former head of household. The option you want to select is "Assign the member to another household". Select the mother's household from the "Select the household to assign in list" dialogue.

jdlessley has given you the answer for your question, but the statement above makes me think that either you have a duplicate record for the child, or there's some misunderstanding.

Just because the child is listed on the mother's record, doesn't mean you have the child's record. The appearance of a child (or parent) ON a record should be considered "genealogical information". The child (or parent) may not reside in the ward, they may even be deceased, but they will still appear ON the record of another member.

I think the confusion arises because the "Household Record" and "Individual Record" screens seems to be two views into the same thing, but they are quite different.

Only if a name shows up when you go to "Individual Record" do you have that member's record. If the name shows up twice, then you have a duplicate record. In that case, follow the instructions found in Duplicate membership records.
