tithing trouble

#1

Post by petersboro »

Good luck with this one. We are in the process of updating our PC to a newer model. One of my clerks had trouble logging on to the older computer to input the tithing for the week. So he started up the new computer which is not yet ready to transmit and receive. He then used the new computer to run the tithing but was not able to send and receive. We need to transfer everything over to the new computer but I'm afraid it will wipe over the tithing that has been done on the new computer. Is there a way to switch over to the new computer without loosing the tithing info that was input?

Thanks

Be prepared to reenter the deposit information that was put on the new computer after you make the transfer from the old computer to the new one. It was actually fortunate that he was not able to do a Send/Receive with the new computer.

How did the clerk set up MLS on the new computer? Did he do a clean install and then restore the most recent backup? It is likely he would have done at least that because without being able to do a send/receive there would be no donors to complete the donation batch. He may also have just copied the MLS folder over to the new computer. If he did it that way then you lost nothing in the transfer. Even the file needed for MLS security synchronization was included.

It is likely your clerk did a clean install with a restore from backup because of your statement about not being able to do a send/receive. Without a security reset a send/receive will not be possible. It is blocked. You will need to contact LUS for a security reset before doing the next send/receive. The security reset can only be done on weekdays because there is no one in LUS over the weekend who can do the reset.

The only problem you have now is to transmit the donation batch.

As I mentioned above all the information you need is most likely on the new computer. It just needs to have financial data resynchronized and the donation batch transmitted.

Thank you for the prompt responses. If I understand correctly jdlessley is telling me that I need to reenter the deposit information once we move to the new pc. I assume this means rescanning the checks as if it were a new batch.
I believe lajackson is telling me there is a way to synchronize without reentering.

I think we will run this weeks tithing as usual on the old PC. Then move to the new pc and restore with a backup from the old pc. Then run a new tithing batch to reenter the missing deposit info. Correct? Hopefully we can figure out how to do it all.

That's one way.

The other way would be just to move forward with your new PC and process this week's donation batch on the new PC. Then call Local Unit Support tomorrow to get the security reset so that you can transmit. Your new PC will have both batches, so there would be no need for duplicate data entry.
