Out-of-unit member access to directory

#1

Post by mlh78 »

It is my understanding that for a member with an out-of-unit record to access the directory, calendar, etc, they must also be placed in a leadership position. Is that correct? I have a missionary couple serving in a ward in our stake and am trying to get them access to these tools, with no avail.

That is correct. The position must be a standard position and not a custom position. Additionally they can only have one out of unit position. As missionaries they may have been entered into another unit with an out of unit record and position. That record and position should be removed from that other unit.

Out-of-unit member access requirements to access the directory

#3

Post by familygenealogy »

True, they need to be assigned a calling that authorizes them (via MLS) the access. I found that I had to also enter their priesthood ordination info (which allows the calling to be displayed and then be selected) in order to give them the calling. Note: You will need the membership record number, the ordination date, and the name of the person performing the ordination (as I remember).

In this post one of the members of the Directory development team indicated that they must have a standard calling but it does not have to be a leadership calling.

That was true for the 'classic' website but I hadn't heard it was true for the new tools. From my understanding of the architecture it shouldn't matter. What's your basis for saying that?

You're probably right. I was mixing experiences with the classic LUWS and the current directory.

I know that LisaAn has stated that the directory will support multiple units. It would be nice to hear from someone who has first hand experience regarding someone having more than one out of unit position and what they are seeing in the unit dropdown listing.

We have two sets of senior couple missionaries serving in our stake. Both have home wards outside of our stake. Each couple are assigned to work with different wards in our stake.

We have added all of them as out-ot-unit members in the respective wards they are serving in and assigned them to standard positions in MLS. The one brother has been entered as a counselor in the bishopric. The other brother has been entered as an employment specialist They both show up correctly in CDOL in standard positions.

The brother in the bishopric is able to access the LDS.org directory and calendar for both his home ward and the ward he is serving in. The other brother can only see his home ward.

Based on a post from JonesRK:
http://tech.lds.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... b49#p95993
it sounds like the brother in the employment specialist position should have access to the directory and calendar for the service unit as well as their home ward, but in our case he does not.

Anyone know what positions (if any) are currently required for out-of-unit members to be granted access to the directory and calendar for their service units? Have been googling the forums trying to see if anyone has posted about this, but could not find anything definitive. I guess I could keep trying different standard positions until it works, but would prefer not granting clerk or leader access for a position not requiring it.

I believe I found the correct person in CDOL and he doesn't have the policy-ldspositions LDS Account header updated see this post for more details.

FYI. The policy-ldspositions LDS Account header has been fixed for this out of unit member and his access is now working.

I'm a clerk in a YSA ward, and the wives of the bishopric are considered out of unit members (belonging to both their home wards and this YSA ward). They can see their home ward directory but not the YSA ward directory. Is there any way for us to give them viewing access to the YSA ward directory? Thanks!
