When is the last missionary payment made?

#1

Post by aclawson »

Our ward has a missionary who is flying home July 3, 2013. When should the final payment into his mission account be made?

If the missionary entered the MTC in July 2011, the first payment would have been charged at the beginning of July 2011; the 24th payment would be charged early in June 2013.

Generally, what aebrown said. However, there are times when a missionary finishes a couple of weeks before his official 24-month mark or perhaps a couple of weeks late. I've seen cases where, depending on the timing, there are 23 or 25 monthly deductions for a given missionary. We assume you mean that June would be the 24th payment and it seems safe for us to say that's the last one. But did this missionary start in late July 2011 or mid-June? Then maybe it would be closer to 23 or 25 "full" months by July 3rd. (Or maybe you're referring to a sister missionary and we're wrong to assume we're counting 24 months.)

Reduced to the most basic form, the question could be rephrased as "if a missionary returns home on <x> date, is the automatic withdrawal before that date the last one or does there ever need to be a withdrawal made after said missionary has returned home?"

Since the first payment happens in the missionary's first month (whether he starts on the 1st or the last day of the month) that means that no payment is necessary in the month that missionary returns. If you count every month from July 2011 through July 2013 (including July 2013, that is) then you'd have 25 months. We assume that a missionary who left early in the month of July 2011 would return early in the month of July 2013. So only 24 payments would be necessary.

You might want to do an income/expense report with details for that missionary. For the date range, select "All." Just count the number of times $400 was taken out and assume that it should be 24 by the end (if it's an Elder and the timing of going and returning is normal). But according to https://www.lds.org/callings/melchizede ... s?lang=eng, (You'll have to sign in to see it) any extension of 15 days or more will result in an additional charge. Scroll down to "Extensions."
