Windows Admin Group Problem

#1

Post by daverich-p40 »

We just installed Desktop Image 5.5. Does Local Unit Support have the
ability to login remotely and correct the following problem..?

In setting up the auto windows login I somehow bumped the standard
CLERK login out of the windows administrator group. It is now only a
guest account. I need to add it back as an admin. The only other pre-
configured admin login on the system is username "DandC89".

Until we resolve this we are unable to do things like apply the MLS update
patch that now downloads each and every time we send and receive.

I have spoken to both our Stake Tech Specialist and Stake Exe
Secretary. Both have tried to track down the login with no success.

You can try and call clerk support what options they have, but if they aren't able to verify that you are who you say you are, they may not help. For obvious reasons, we don't give out passwords in this forum, not even via private mail.

You may want to simply re-image the Desktop.

When you do solve the problem, consider adding another administrator for backup.

They won't be able to remote in over a dial up line, but I will try and get the dandc89 password and get it to you via private message.

Please just reimage this pc. Headquarters should not give out this password.

is your computer on a dial up connection or high speed? Lakeytw is probably right on this. For security purposes it is proably best to reimage if you are on a dial up connection.

You might poke around the internet for password recovery rescue disks. There exist disks that will allow you to change passwords for Windows from a Linux rescue disk.

Most of these disks come with dire warnings about how well they work, and what sort of things they can do to your system, but if the other option is to re-image, this might save you some headache.

The problem is then your system is no longer standard. That may come back and bite you down the road when something new comes out or when you try to get support from SLC.

Windows Admin Password

So there is someone that knows it exists... we are making progress.

Its an admin password to the system. The same level of access as the CLERK login for which I am trying to reassign to the admin group. It is not securing any access that we didn't already have so I don't understand why it can't be shared... how about sent to the Stake President. He should be trust worthy enough.

It will take weeks to get the CD's back from the other Wards now... don't send me the password but lets not lets not make this more than it needs to be. An email or phone call to the SP will save two clerks 4-5 hour each.

I guess I should have also asked if lakeytw was volunteering to re-image it for us...?

Download from mls.lds.org. If you don't know the login, ask the stake technology specialist or stake clerk.

You can try and call support and ask them to send the password to someone they trust in the stake.
