On the preferences page there is a link to this page:

When I go there and enter my new email address and current ldsaccount password and click the "change email" button, I am give an error that states my password is incorrect.
I've tried it several times so I'm pretty sure I've entered my password correct.

That page should probably have been disabled. The way LDS Account is integrated into the LDSTech wiki, there's not supposed to be any way to change your email address on the wiki itself. Instead, you just need to go to ldsaccount.lds.org and use the regular LDS Account process for changing your email address.
