How to create a calendar that any ward member can submit a calendar item.

We have the need to create a calendar that will allow every ward member to submit an event. I would also like to make it so that the events do not need to be approved to show up on the calendar, but that they can be auto approved.

The only way I know of to do this with the new calendar system is to create a calendar and then assign each member of the ward by name as a calendar editor. This would come with some risks. Any member could select a location for their event, including the entire building, and no one else would be able to schedule an event at the same time that used the same resource (room or building). And as a calendar editor, every member would be able to change, move, reassign, or otherwise do something to any other event on the calendar.

And there would be the administrative nightmare of keeping the list of member editors up to date. They would need to be deleted when they moved out and added when they moved into the ward.

Others have suggested being able to do something like this for such things as a meal calendar for the missionaries, or a schedule of assignments for cleaning the building. The proposed solution most often recommended is that this is a case where a few members would be given the calendar editorship, and members would contact them for calendar updates.

Even if the number of actual editors is held to a small number for this particular calendar, any member of the ward who subscribes to the calendar will be able to view it. There is no restriction in that regard for any ward member, as long as it is a public calendar.
