Unclaimed Lost Ring - What Do We Do?
On 14 Sep 2008, we found a gold wedding band in our chapel, and it has never been claimed. It is unlikely to be claimed at this point. So, what do we do with it? Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know, but I suspect the answer is going to be some variation of send it to CHQ.

Since no one has come up with a answer backed by a church publication, I think the best thing to do is have the bishop ask the stake president. If needed, he should inquire with the Area Authority.
Note that given the likely value of the item, there may be a "law of the land" issue as well.

Does the ring have any identifying inscription inside the band -- initials, date? If so, have your ward or stake membership clerk check membership records for marriage dates of members living in the wards that were meeting in the building at the time the ring was found. If no success (lots of turnover in wards during that amount of time), see if central church records could help with a similar search on a broader basis to match marriage dates, initials to names, and living in your ward, stake, or area at that time.
