Ward Missionary Fund

#1

Post by jef8861 »

Our ward has a situation of supporting a missionary who is currently serving a "special needs" mission for 24 months. He has yet to appear in our MLS section for Ward Missionary. I have sent numerous messages to Church HQ and still nothing has happened. Is there anything I need to do in MLS to create/update this missionary into the Ward Missionary Fund so that when donations come in for him specifically, we can make sure that they are credited correctly? Is there a person at Church HQ who I may speak directly to concerning this issue? Any assistance w/b appreciated.

Thank You:>)

The fact that no subcategory of Ward Missionary has been created for this missionary makes me wonder if things have been set up properly yet at CHQ so that your ward will be charged for his monthly expenses. I'm not familiar with an official "special needs" category for a missionary; is that handled like the normal equalized payments, or is there some other system for charging expenses to the ward? Is there a regular monthly charge?

You should consider working through your stake clerk, both because he may know the answers already, but also because he will get a higher priority in dealing with Local Unit Support.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

I would recommend that as well. Most 'special needs' missions that I've heard of are really service missions and according to sections 4.6 and 14.4.3 only proselyting missionaries can be funded through the ward mission fund. So if this is a service mission hopefully the stake already worked out how the mission finances would be handled before the call was made.

If it is a proselyting mission then hopefully the stake clerk can help resolve the issue with Local Unit Support to get the account setup correctly.
