Text Messaging

I know this has been raised in other threads but I am looking for an ability to text message.
I suggest to make a phone application which can sync with the ward directory to make a customizable list to send out messages from the members phone using the members phone.
I hope that in the future there will be a way to sync the list so that it can be shared with ward and the stake.
I know there is an application that is already made that can download the ward directory. I was hoping to start there and modifiy it to send out text messages using the phones data plan.

I was hoping to get some feedback if this would be possible or if there are people that would be willing to look into working on this.
