Approving Directory Photos (Images) That Appear Sideways

#1

Post by jfackerson »

As MemRecClk I have access to approving newly added photos (images) to our ward's directory. ...Have just received 2 from same family. Both are displayed sideways.

Now I've seen this problem before; however, it's been with receiving images within my cell phone's "text message display". Every photo that my daughter sends to me, arrives sideways. Of course, rolling phone 90 degrees doesn't right that image -- it remains at a 270 degree angle from vertical.
Before approving such ward directory images, is there anyway for me to adjust them or for members to adjust their image input?

I think the only way to fix it is to download the photo, correct it, and re-upload it.

I think the underlying problem is that some cameras do not rotate the image, but rather record an "orientation" attribute in the file. To add the to fun, some programs "rotate" by editing that tag rather then modify the image. But not all viewers honor that tag. So what looks fine on your computer may not look right once uploaded.

The up-coming release of Directory will include the ability for users to crop and rotate photos. Until then, you'll have to fix the photo and upload it again.

Did as advised. Downloaded, rolled images 90 degrees clockwise from 270 to 360. Uploaded. Relabel each image.
...Selected "Check Box" to approve . ...Now appear OK within ward directory.
Tks
