I can not put new calender items in or change old items since the change to the new system. Nobody seems to know whats happening or the right fix.

What is your calling? Only calendar editors are allowed to make changes. The default admins (stake presidency and bishoprics) can set up additional admins and/or calendar editors.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
