Unable to edit Viewers/Editors on a Private Calendar

#1

Post by thompsont »

For all public calendars I see the "Add new person" link on the top right hand side of the Viewers/Editors list. I do not have this option for our private Stake Leadership Calendar. I am the Stake Assistant Clerk (Membership) and my access to the calendar is controlled by my calling.

Is there any way to fix this or do we have to delete the calendar and start over?

Do all the other stake calendar administrators have the same experience, or are you the only one? If you are the only one, then this is a bit of a mystery, since your calling is almost certainly correct (since you must be some sort of administrator to even see the list of calendars). Deleting the calendar seems like a drastic step -- I'd certainly try to troubleshoot the problem in more detail before doing that.

[Moderator Note: I moved this post to a new thread from the thread New Calendar Issues - Private Calendars, since that thread deals with viewing private calendars. This is a different issue.]

Sorry for the delayed response. I forgot I had posted this until I tried to edit the private calendar again today. :)

Both the Stake Clerk and I are having this issue. We seem to be able to edit every other public calendar - just not this private one.

Being an administrator does not grant you access to add/remove viewers and editors on a private calendar. As an administrator, you should be able to see who has view and edit access on that calendar, but if you are not listed as someone with edit access, either by calling or by name, then you will not have access do anything else with the calendar (you can't edit calendar users for that calendar, you can't subscribe to it and you can't see it from the calendar view). If it is a calendar that you should have access to, then someone else who has view/edit permissions for that calendar will need to add you.

It works this way by design. As ward Website Administrator, I have permissions to edit and manage calendars, but my calling does not, nor should it, give me access to see the bishop's private calendar where he schedules interviews, just as an example. An administrator has to approve all created calendars, including a private one, but once a private calendar is approved, only those who were added as editors will be able to change/edit that calendar.

That's probably true for added administrators (Note that a Ward Website Admin is not listed as a default Admin).

I'm a Stake Technology Specialist, which is a default stake admin and I can see the buttons to modify private stake calendars.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

I am the stake membership clerk and I originally created the private calendar. I am still listed as an editor and viewer of that calendar, by my calling, but I cannot edit it (I can edit all public stake calendars). The stake clerk has the same permissions as me and cannot access the calendar either.

In that case, your issue very well may be the same or at least similar/related to the issues in the thread from which Brother Brown moved this. I think at first glace, because you said you could edit public calendars, this looked like it might be an issue with public calendars and therefore different.

But that's only because the documentation is wrong. A ward Website Administrator is most definitely a default calendar administrator. This was made clear in this post. Any further discussion of this topic should take place in that other thread, but I didn't want to leave that incorrect statement unchallenged in this thread.

As a Default Administator I can't edit/veiw any private calandars at all. However, I can Add A New Person as veiwers/editors, but I can only do it to the default calandars that were set up under Inital Setup. If the calandar was made by someone else I don't have Add A New Person rights, although I was able to approve the calandar.
