Our Ward has a new name. What do I do now?
Our Ward name has been officially changed by the Stake Leadership. I am one of the Assistant Ward Clerks in change of finances; (the Ward Finance Clerk.) Our Bishop has asked that I make sure that all changes that need to be made are made. I am at a loss as to where to start: what to touch, who to call and etc. Where should I start and what needs to be changed?

First of all, the stake has no authority to officially change ward names. It can submit a request to Church headquarters to change the name, but that is only a request. If it is approved, the stake president will receive a letter from the Office of the First Presidency informing them of the change. Then the change will be made by CHQ and will eventually show up on CDOL and the other online systems. There's very little that has to be done at the local level. The one thing that I know of that has to be changed manually is in the ward's MLS: go into System Options (specifically, the Unit tab) and change the unit name (under "Unit Information").lrh3 wrote:Our Ward name has been officially changed by the Stake Leadership. I was a clerk for years before my current calling (EQP). My understanding is that most everything is controlled via CDOL. So long as the name has been updated in CDOL by the Boundary and Leadership Change Committee at CHQ, you should be fine. I hope someone else can back me up with that assumption (looks like "aebrown" has).

I am assuming that our Stake followed proper protocol to validate the name change. It was ratified by a Stake leader from the pulpit in our Sacrament Meeting. If I have the Ward Clerk order new tithing and business envelopes, letter head, and any other items like this, then make the changes suggested in MLS, then I should be OK?

There's a detailed wiki article at Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders.lrh3 wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but what does the acronym "CDOL" stand for?

In addition, quite a few of the terms and acronyms we like to toss around can be found in the Wiki's Glossary page.aebrown wrote:There's a detailed wiki article at Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders.

To Recap...

As Financial Clerk, do I need to know that the Stake has followed proper protocol and that the "Title" to our new Ward name is in hand? It sounds like all I have to do is make sure the Ward Clerk orders the new tithing envelopes, letter head, business envelopes, rubber stamps, and I can make the changes suggested in MLS and then I should be set. Thoughts?
